This weekend was a little crazy. On Thursday we got a late night phone call from Dan's mom telling us that she had just rushed his dad to the hospital. Turns out his appendix was perforated (not fully ruptured, but definitely leaking) and he had a massive gall stone. So the doctors started the surgery around midnight and finished up about 5 a.m. on Friday morning. Even though an appendectomy is fairly routine and removing the gall bladder is not a major surgery, Dan and I left immediately after work on Friday to head home. Dan's dad was relesed on Saturday and spent most of the day feeling awful and getting very dehydrated and we were all afraid he was going to have to be readmitted to the hospital, but he recovered at home and by Sunday was supervising yard work.
Speaking of yard work, one of my friends frequently blogs about her gardens and flowers and I get a yearning to plant things of my own, but having spent the day gardening, I think gardening is not for me and here is why: SPIDERS. I saw 6 spiders in the span of 5 minutes, the first one was on the lawn mower, the second one was on the lawn mower, the third was on the pruning shears, the 4th was hanging from a knife I was using to cut flower stalks, the 5th was on the side of the garage, and the 6th came down on its thread right in front of my face! By that point, I was on complete spider overload, so I screamed, took off running into the house, sat on the couch and bawled for about 10 minutes. I took a deep breath and went back outside where I was able to successfully finish pruning all of the flowers and harvesting a 13 gallon bag of parsly with only three more spider encounters. So, Kelly, keep up your gardening and I will garden vicariously and spider-free through you!

Haha! I don't encounter spiders a lot at home, surprisingly, while gardening. But then again, maybe I've just grown accustomed to them. :) I don't have a special love for them either. The only ones that really get under my skin are garden spiders...and I haven't seen one of those in a long time. Just google it. Ewwwww.
