A Strange Winter Break

Well, this winter break did not turn out at all like I had thought it might.

Christmas was wonderful.  David is old enough now to start understanding some of the aspects of Christmas and he LOVED his gifts and has been playing with them non-stop!  I got some really, really nice things as well.

Then, a few nights later, David had a nightmare so we brought him to bed with us to snuggle.  Somehow, he managed to poke me in they eye and scratch my cornea.  I would rank that pain right up there with childbirth and kidney stones!  So, I literally spent a day and a half with my eyes closed so I could heal.  And, on top of it all, I had a sinus infection!  At least I didn't have to use any sick time.

Today, I was browsing Facebook and saw that an old friend of mine from college who is just a couple of years older than me - maybe 28, passed away of a heart attack that resulted from a birth defect.  He was an amazing musician and I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him in a number of musical productions at Iowa State.  He was so talented and a genuinely nice guy with a heart of gold.  He will be missed by so many.  His death puts life in perspective and reminds me to be thankful for everything I have.

Tomorrow we go to the annual Krumm New Year's Eve bash and that will be fun, as always, but I am having a difficult time getting excited about it with the news I received today.  So, my dear ISU friends, those who are feeling this loss so much more than I am, I love you and am here for you if you need an ear or shoulder.  My prayers go out to you all and his family.
