My House Smells Like Africa

According to Dan, Africa smells like "wood smoke and butt sweat." Thus, my house smells like "wood smoke and butt sweat!" But that is quite alright with me. He had an amazing trip and came home with some beautiful souvineres and even more beautiful memories!

Some things Dan did and learned in Africa:
* He saw the completed water project our church in Ames has been working on for 6 years! The village of Hedaru has water!
* He played traditional (but popular) music with a famous drumming/singing group. They were all impressed with his ability to sit at a drum or pick up a shaker and join right in!
* He learned to hunt with the Hadzabe tribe. This tribe speaks in a click language, sleeps on the ground under the stars, and makes fire in less than 15 seconds by rubbing one stick (because they think rubbing two sticks together to make fire is stupid!)
* He visited the Ngorongoro Crater - which is stunning in the pictures and is, I'm sure, worlds more beautiful in person!
* In the Crater, Dan saw a fabulous amount of wildlife. Did you know that when zebras aren't busy eating or doing other zebra type things, they always pair up and stand crossed at the necks? This is because of their fabulous eye sight! The pair of zebras work as a team to achieve a 360 degree view to monitor for preditors! Very smart!
* Throughout his trip, he met several species of spider and wasp. Wasps, I could deal with! Spiders, utterly unacceptable!

Overall, he is dead tired, sunburnt, and glad to be home. But, he is already looking forward to his next trip to Tanzania!
