I have just returned from a week in South Carolina visiting friends. The family I used to nanny for moved to SC at the same time my husband and I moved to WI and I hadn't seen them in almost a year. The parents are great and the two boys are just cute as can be. D is 5 1/2 now and J will be 3 on Jun 23rd! They are looking so grown up! Both of them remembered me and were asking about old times back in IA. J was barely talking when they left and now is talking up a storm! :) D is still absorbing information like a sponge and loves telling me new things he has learned. I really enjoyed the good food and conversation with the parents (I miss just sitting down over a coffee and taking to them), but my favorite part was "mommy practice" with the boys.
My Days as "Mommy"
6:58 am - D and J come into my room. D does a puzzle and J crawls into bed with me for morning snuggles.
7:30 am - Head downstairs for breakfast
8:00 am - Curious George for the boys, a shower for me
9:00 am - A trip to the park, pond, tennis courts, downtown, etc.
11:45 am - Lunch time
12:30 pm - Quiet time for D, naps for me and J
3:00 pm - Everyone starts to get up for a snack
3:30 pm - Outside to ride bikes up and down the sidewalk and play the ever favorite game of Red Light/Green Light
4:00 pm - Coffee with the parents on the porch while the boys continue playing
5:30 pm - Dinner
7:00 pm - Popsicles on the porch (one of my favorite rituals with the boys!)
7:30 pm - Tubby time! This usually means I am almost as wet as the boys from all the splashing!
8:00 pm - Bed time!
8:30-9:30 pm - Tell the boys several times to put away the toys, quit talking, and get back into bed.
10:00 pm - Boys are asleep and I am pooped, but extremely happy!
This was a much needed vacation and it reaffirmed my desire to be a mommy. I just wish I could find a job that pays well and that I enjoy in the meantime! Until parenthood arrives, I have no problem practicing with D and J! Until next time...
